Saskatchewan RCMP continue to investigate an early Monday morning firearms incident near Pelican Narrows that led to a police pursuit and a search for outstanding suspects.

In an updated news release, RCMP say they received a report at approximately 1 a.m. on September 21 that a firearm had been discharged at a vehicle in the community. One occupant of the vehicle was treated at a local clinic for injuries described by police as non-life-threatening.

According to RCMP, officers later located an identified suspect vehicle at about 4:15 a.m. and attempted a traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle did not stop. Police say officers pursued the vehicle and discharged a firearm toward it during the incident.

The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned on Highway 135 and its occupants are believed to have fled on foot. Highway 135, which had been affected by the police response, has since reopened to traffic.

An increased police presence remains in the area as officers continue their search with assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team. No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw a black 2016 Dodge Journey bearing Saskatchewan licence plate 894 KUG in the Pelican Narrows area late September 20 or early September 21 to contact RCMP. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

RCMP say they will provide further information as it becomes available and will notify the public if investigators identify an imminent risk to public safety.
