Every year in North America, about 100 tow truck drivers are killed each year by passing vehicles.
To honour those drivers and raise awareness about the issue, CAA is marking Slow Down Move Over Day, taking place on Saturday, October 17th.
Lona Gervais with CAA says it is the law to slow to 60 km/hr when passing these vehicles.
“CAA asks that you give them some room by moving into the other lane, and it you can’t move over, stay alert and slow right down. Give them as much room as possible. A few careful seconds can save a life.”
To bring awareness to the issue, CAA is organizing a parade along Ring Road tomorrow in Regina. Service vehicles of all kinds will be making the trip, traveling at 60 km/hr with their lights flashing to honour the drivers that have been killed.
The public is invited to spread the safety message on social media by sharing CAAs posts and tagging friends and family.
