The Government of Saskatchewan, EGADZ, and the Saskatoon Youth Advisory Team are highlighting the FUSION Plus programs progress as the projected opening time creeps closer.
FUSION Plus was announced in May this year by the Government of Saskatchewan and EGADZ.
The program was designed to build on the success of the original FUSION program, combining stable housing with life skills development, education supports, employment readiness programming and wellness services to help up to 40 youth between the ages of 16 and 21 currently or previously in the care of the Ministry of Social Services to successfully transition to independence
Since the original announcement, partners have continued work on FUSION Plus while still focusing on youth engagement throughout the process.
Members of the Saskatoon Youth Advisory Team have helped guide program planning and design during the development of the program to make sure the initiative reflects the needs and experiences of the youth it’s meant for.
EGADZ Executive Director Don Meikle says FUSION Plus will provide Saskatchewan youth with the support they need to become contributing citizens.
“If we do not assist young people now, the homelessness problem will only continue to grow. With all the support and partnerships we are receiving with this project, the future is brighter for these young people and future generations.”
FUSION Plus is being developed through a partnership involving EGADZ, the ministries of Social Services, Health and Immigration and Career Training, Foundations Learning, Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership and community partners.
The program is expected to open later this year.
